Competitive Skills

Bridgend County Swim Squad

Competitive Skills 3 to 1

The Competitive Squads are where swimmers will start to take the basic techniques and skills they have learned and begin to transition those into a training group and into regular competition.

This is the section of the club where swimmers will start competing on a regular basis whilst building on the foundations of the development squads.

As swimmers progress through the Competitive Squads there will be a gradual increase in pool time and distance swam in order to begin building their aerobic capacity.

Competitive Skills 3

CS3 has an average age range of 7-11, with a minimum entry level of Wave 7 of the Swim Wales Aqua Passport Learn to Swim Framework or at an equivalent entry standard.

CS3 get to learn the first stages of starts and turns along with a series of drills to support all four strokes, with the focus being on achieving progressive development of skills and technique to best support their overall long term development.

There are 3 sessions per week available and incorporate all four stokes per session with a particular emphasis on key drills per week over a four week period: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

The competition environment for CS3 is through our own “Young Olympians” internal race nights four times per year. We strive to achieve this in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

There are four sessions available, plus land training, for this squad, and swimmers are encouraged to attend all or as many as possible to further their development.
